Works for Me Wednesday - Start the day fresh!

Once again, Shannon "rocks" at Rocks in My Dryer. I'm sure she's going to be contacted soon to be the next editor of Hints from Heloise. Thanks, Shannon!

Today's WFMW is just one of my Everyday Sanity Savers:
  1. Start the day with an empty dishwasher.
  2. Start the day with an empty kitchen trash can.
I start the dishwasher every night at bedtime, no matter how full or empty. Then, first thing in the morning, I unload it (or delegate the job). I also like to empty the trash (no matter how full or empty) first thing every morning.

This is how I "trick" myself into thinking it's less work to keep up with the dishes as the day goes by. Having an empty trash can keeps me from being depressed at the insane amount of garbage one family can generate in one day!

I also make sure these are done before we have company, too.

Works for me!

Thanks for visiting me. I love your tip too. (I do the same thing before I go to bed at night, just to start the day off right)

You are so smart to remember to get that dishwasher running last thing at night! We always seem to forget--and what a pain to have to run it and empty it...only to have it practically full again with lunch dishes in the middle of the day. I really do have to start remembering to run the darned thing. If you want to fill in space, think about washing the occasional canister or jell-O mold.

I hear you! There is nothing better than a put-together kitchen when you enter it in the morning.

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog. When my daughter was about seven she said one evening (the dishwasher was on, the floor swept, etc.) "This is my favoritist time of the day." She's right and so are you...dishwasher in the evening is a great idea and doesn't use all of the hot water for showers in the morning. Thanks for the reminder.

I also HATE waking up to a messy kitchen. It's SO worth staying up a little later, to have it all "put togeher."

My tip is up, but the big thing I wanted to say is, I think I have the answer to your marker on the carpet deal. It's actually my tip for next Wednesday. FOLEX. You buy it in the carpet department of hardware stores. It took a palm-sized woodstain stain out of my beige carpet (after it had been sitting there for 1 1/2 YEARS!)

Excellent idea--I never thought of starting the day with an empty trash can, but that makes so much sense.
