Categorizing my life

Over the weekend I switched over to the "new" Blogger. That was the easy part. All week I've been trudging through over 200 posts - labeling them into categories (Virtual filing is so much more tolerable - if only I could be so diligent to get through my mountains of paper filing, right Laura?). I still have to figure out how to get them into my sidebar...

At first, I started with only about 4 or 5 categories, but then I realized that would make the poor reader have to sift through (yawn) 40 or 50 posts to find that one jewel in the blog pile.

So I went a little crazy.

Granted, I was doing most of this after 11:30 p.m., when (for me) the irrational somehow starts to sound like a good idea. Four or five just isn't enough. Add one. Hmm. That one doesn't really fit into any of those. Add another. And another. Feeling feverish now. And another. Well, maybe just one more. Sheesh.

By the time I finished, had eighteen categories. Am I nuts or what?
Of course, I see that I'm slim in the "M" department: Memes, middle years (my poor middle child!), and marriage. Oh well, I do try.

In hindsight (and in broad daylight), I realize I could have saved a whole lot of time and put them all into one giant category:

Through the fun and the not-so-fun times that we share on this blog (as in life), I want faith be the overriding "label" that gives meaning and purpose to all that we do and say.

It's going to take a lot of that faith just to help me remember what post goes in which category!
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6
And speaking of faith, my sister Rachel Anne over at Home Sanctuary has a great post called Fearless Parenting you don't want to miss!
But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

Mark 4:40

I just had to comment on your categorizing. I did the same thing while we were iced in this week!! It really did make me feel much better to have categories for my posts. Hope you're thawing out!

if you figure out how to put it on your side bar, please do share =)

I can't express how happy I am that you did this. Last night I was reading blogs and saying to myself, "I would LOVE to read all of Katherine's posts, but how on earth will I find the time to go through all of them?" Now I don't have to! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now, could you send me some of that snow you got yesterday? Please?

I know completely how you feel. The whole category thing drives me nuts. I'm pretty random what I blog about so everything seems to get filed in one of two places. I think I might just ditch the whole system for now and try categories again after I've posted for a while.

Well, I loved this and caught up on some posts I actually missed out on.

By "middle years" I thought you were referring to like, us. Your daughter never entered my mind till I read it. :vD

And I can certainly help you in the meme area. Sheesh, if I'd have known you've only done 4 in your whole bloglife I would have been chasing you down and tagging you long ago!

And faith is what comes through loud and clear in your site, Katherine

Katherine...if I'm up until 3am this morning (again) playing with my blog tonight, it's gonna be all your fault!

I have categories on my other blog and it makes life easier. I can only imagine how GREAT you feel!

Thanks for sharing and continue to share any tips you find!

I love your blog and constantly find myself checking to read and soak up your wisdom on parenting. I have three little ones and I cherish you pointing me to the Lord through your writing! This is my first time ever leaving a comment, although I think about it often!

Oooh, am I ever glad that I switched over to the new blogger when I only had about 20 posts!
Good job!

Welcome to the new blogger, Katherine! Just switched over myself and like it a lot better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts like you do. Teresa and I both enjoy reading what you write. I've just shared your url in a post on so our women can be blessed, too!

I think it's great that you got to categorize all your posts. I've debated moving over to the new Blogger but wonder if it is easy to manoeuvre. I know you're busy but if you have a moment, could you e-mail me and let me know how you like the new Blogger?

I've been working on mine, too! I also agreed that the way that they come up on one screen, more labels are better.

I will email you and Laurel and tell you how I put mine in the sidebar.

I switched to Wordpress and I have 360 plus posts to do! I'm doing them by months so I feel like I'm accomplishing something. Three down. 9 more months to go!
