Happy Birthday, Little One

I’m a bit remiss in celebrating our little one’s birthday here in Blogland. It was also in December, and I hope I’m not setting a precedent by putting her off by a month! I just HAVE to get more organized about those December birthdays!

I can’t believe my baby is 3!

What can I say about this child? When I found out I was pregnant with her (surprise!) at age 37, like Sarah, I laughed (and felt darn OLD!). I had a scary, bedrested pregnancy with her, but what a joy she has been. I have savored every moment of her baby and toddlerhood, knowing she was probably the last. She is the best snuggler, hugger and “I love you” sayer…I wish I could just bottle up her sweet softness and make it last as long as I can!

A bit about Little One:

She loves bandaids. Since she’s always running (climbing, jumping) to keep up with the big kids, she’s always falling, running into things, and otherwise scraping, cutting or wounding herself. Bandaids are a weekly shopping item (sometimes two boxes). They even work to make her bumps and bruises feel better. Magic!

She loves cinnamon toast, peanut butter, “pink” (strawberry) milk, and sampling from the sugar bowl.

She would take a bath seven times a day, if I let her.

She is one of the few three-year-olds I know that can not only sing the words to Hide ‘em in Your Heart songs, but also the words to most of the songs in High School Musical, and hum the theme song to Superman (nuh-nuh-NUH-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-NUH-nuh-NUH). Courtesy of older siblings, of course.

It is very hard to be upset with someone who sticks (and breaks off) a pencil lead in your cell phone’s ear-bud plug-in (thinking it was a pencil sharpener) when she’s got crazy hair, a missing tooth, can’t say her R’s or S’s, and looks up at you with big blue eyes and says, “I’m tho thowwy, Mommy. Pleathe a-give me.” (I’m so sorry, Mommy. Please forgive me.)

Little One is like the mascot for most of the big kids’ teams. When she shows up to games, she gets passed around (like she’s a baby), and she does not disappoint with an engaging show of cuteness. This is usually because she’s had her nap in the car on the way and is ready to rumble!

She alternately has aversions to socks, shoes, panties, pants and sometimes just clothing in general. Usually by searching high and low and finally locating (and turning off, aka tickling) her “whiney button” (belly button) she snaps out of her dismay and is more cooperative. Not always. We’re working on it.

She is a great little sister, especially to our 5 yr old. They are inseparable. Most of the time they sleep together in the same twin bed. They sing made-up songs, tickle each other, kick each other’s teeth out , and generally make it hard for me to settle them down.

But would I have it any other way?

I'm so glad Little One is part of our family. She adds sparkle and oomph to our little clan and joy to my heart.

I love you, Little One. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Little One! Maybe it's a good thing to celebrate her birthday as an event seperate from Christmas-that way it doesn't just all get lumped together and feel like one celebration. I hope you're enjoying all of those snuggles from your last little one.

Happy 3rd birthday to your sweetie! :D

And guess what? I just posted earlier in the week about High School Musical...and both my 7 and 4 yr old were singing parts of all the songs on the way home in the car today! We are huge fans here! :D

I had my four year old at age 39...and I so appreciate being a mommy to a little one, too!

Oh, for some crazy, wacky reason, this made me cry. ~smile~ I don't want my latest Little One to grow up? Oh, but she MUST! And how I *PRAY* that I have a surprise like that at 37!! Snuggle Little One. These... ALL OF THEM... are sacred days.

All is gift,

I've heard people say when they have a baby when they're a little older it's totally "different" then when you have one when you're young.
She sounds like a typical 3 yr. old, into things but so sweet, fun, and joyful !!

How cute. I love it that she can sing both "Hide 'em in Your Heart" and "High School Musical". Those are two cherished items in our home.
I added you to my blogroll - hope that's okay.

My dd turned 3 in December, too. I just adore all the cute things she does, and being one of the youngest in the house, she aims to make everyone laugh! Or cry, depending on her mood, hehe. She loves her biggest sis so much that she draws her pictures all the time while sissy is in school. Cute, yes, but they are on her walls and doors with permanant markers!

Happy Birthday!!! She is precious. Now, exactly how do you keep up with all of those birthdays. When I am put on the spot I can't remember my own (here lately I can't remember ages either -oops) Lots of spunk being one of the younger , sounds like. It is a joy to recall the actual birth- I think it is more for the parents than for the children. Have a great day!

I'm missing it. I want to hug her too! I hate being so far away.

I'm still in tears from reading your homeschool blogs. Couldn't comment there, but Oh, I'm "on the cusp" too.

Love and miss you,
