Memories of the not-so-distant past

After my last post about simplifying with the big picture in mind, I've been thinking about how quickly the last three years have passed.

Here is my husband's graduation day, with our 10, 9 and almost six-year-old (the youngest was 2-1/2 and with a babysitter).

As proof that I was there, and that I was indeed 38 weeks pregnant, I offer you this (taken from five-year-old eye-level):

Here's the one that actually includes the chubby cheeks. It's good every now and then to look back and be thankful. God was faithful back then, in the busy-ness of that time of my life. I'm not sure I realized just how much I needed Him, but He was there, anyway. I'm certain of it, because I simply couldn't have made it through without His grace and strength.

Three years ago, I could not imagine that my life would some day include two middle schoolers, a third grader and two preschoolers - NONE of which were in diapers (we were on but Year 10 of what would be a 13-year stint with diapers at our house!). God has brought us so far.

Three years from now, I'll have one driving, one with a learner's permit (Lord have mercy!), one middle schooler, and two in elementary school. Barring the miraculous, NO preschoolers. WAH!

All I can say is, it's a good thing He gives us one day at a time! Whew!

But I know He will be faithful, just as He is now, both in my quiet moments as well as in the insane ones.

He is good.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100:5, NIV

Oh, and Rachel Anne has more thoughts about what simplicity looks like here. Can you tell this is a topic that's worn a trail from her phone to mine and back over many years of school, marriage and kids?

It does seem so crazy, that we will have driving children in three years...yikes.
but...slowly but surely, right?

Those pictures made me smile! God is so faithful!

I've got one about to take her driver's test and one that just got his learners. Yup, Clairol Nice' n Easy #102 hides grey real well.

Wonderful photos! What a lovely family you have!
I try not to think too far ahead with my kids, or then I get really sad.

After our first 5 kids, Donnie had a vasectomy. If we had stayed at that point we would have 1 driving, 1 with a permit, 1 middle schooler and 2 elementary schoolers.
But we have that plus a toddler and a baby. And I'm one happy momma about that!

It really is a blast having my 17yo baby holding my 5 month old baby, and just remembering how he was that little one day and how Sam will be that big one day. I don't like the days that the 3 of us are out and someone tells Sam he looks like his daddy, who is NOT his daddy. Either I'm a sicko or I'm the grandma, and I'm not sure which I think is worse.

Gotta love it when the kids take

Isn't it amazing how fast time flies!
