Two bloggy thoughts about comments

Hope y'all had a restful weekend. I had a great time with my family (pics coming soon!).

In the meantime, I've been thinkin' some bloggy thoughts:

ONE: Check the Box.

For those of you who missed my post on Checking the Box, please, CHECK THE "Show my Email" BOX on your Blogger profile (I'm sure there's something similar on other programs).

This allows me (and anyone else on whose blog you leave a comment) to reply directly to your comment by email.

I LOVE it when you do this, because I don't get out visiting as much as I'd like (but I DO leave my back door open, so y'all can just come on in. Cold tea's in the fridge. Popsicles in the freezer for the kids!). This way I can thank you for your comment, and we can continue the conversation "behind the scenes."

TWO: Add your blog name to your display name.

Okay, so this is just personal preference, but here goes...

Most of us here in Blogland only use our first names, so when I see Jennifer, Lori, or Lauren (as an example only - roll with me here, folks!), I have to think of which Jennifer, Lori, or Lauren is leaving that insightful comment. I have to pull up the profile to figure out who you are.

I know that sounds impersonal, but I'm just bein' real here! It helps so much if I know your blog name, too. Think of it as your "cyber last name."

All you have to do is edit your profile. On Blogger, it's on your dashboard (somebody help me with where it is on other programs). Change your display name so it looks something like this:

Or you can use your blog name for your display name, like my friend Code Yellow Mom, or my new friend kittyhox. That works, too.

That way I know who you are, right away. And others who read your comment do, too. Most of my favorite blogs I found by clicking on the profile of a person who left an interesting comment on someone else's blog. Seriously. Sometimes I'm intrigued to read someone's blog because of their unique blog name. Wouldn't you want to see why on earth someone would name their blog "Sorta Crunchy?"

Hey, and if you checked the box, we can reply right back to you by email! So fun!

If you don't have a blog, but like to comment occasionally (I LOVE to know who you are and what's on your mind, too - that's what makes blogging worth it all!!), PLEASE set up a Blogger account. It's free, safe, and easy. This is no time to be shy!

Then, set up your profile so others can identify you - and email you back!

That's all for now! Have a great bloggy day!

Hey, I love your new profile pic.

I have a few people who comment who have the same name. I end up having to pull up the blogger profile to find out which person it is if I can't tell by the way they wrote the comment, so this is a good idea.

First of all, thanks for repeating your "Check The Box" plea. I love it when I can reply to a commenter without hunting down their address.

Next, I've thought about having my blog name displayed with my user name, but was too lazy to figure it out. So as soon as I saw your post, I went straight and changed it.

And finally, love, love, love your new photo!

Great idea on the display name! I added the first letter of my last name to try to be different, but adding my blog name is much better! Thanks for the tip!

Done and done!

Thanks for repeating the "Check the Box!" encouragement. I am going to have to start pestering my bloggin' friends who haven't done this. Makes life so much easier. And what great advice on changing the display name. Amazingly, I *guess* I am NOT the only Megan in the blogosphere running around and commenting on great blogs instead of doing laundry.

Finally, would it tickle you to know I actually blushed at the mention of my lil ol' blog? Red in the face, sister. For real!

(Okay, one last thing - really. LOVE the new display pic! Hot mama!)

I've enjoyed reading over your blogging suggestions! I've made a few changes on my end...thanks for the directions. I also like your new profile pic. Blessings, Diane
P.S. How do you include your "fancy signature" at the end of each post?

Yeah, I've been meaning to add Snapshot to my display name. I already have it in there on typepad and haloscan, but never did it on blogger. I'll obey soon :)

I LOVE the new profile picture. I just love laughing pictures; it makes everyone seem so much more real. Good tidbits on the blogging etiquette too. I hate it when I want to respond to a comment but can't find an email address. Ugh!

Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Yet some of us don't blog with blogger...and I don't really want to set up/try to up keep another account. I'm sorry...I like the idea, and I tell you site name to leave a comment, but since my blog isn't blogger, I don't have those nice options. But I like how you clearly explained it, with the screen shots and all.

I couldn't agree more! Nothing is worse than wanting to reply to someone's comment via e-mail only to find out that you can't. And I have several Tracy's and Stacy's ~ I can't keep 'em all straight!

Great advice!!! I never thought about that but I have since fixed it.

I decided to do this, but I got a new email to enhance security. Now I have a question -- do you know how I can change my sign in email to the new one because I'd rather just delete the old sign in email address, I don't use it for anything else anyway.

Also, I'd love to know how you add the fancy signature at the end of your posts.
