Making Raising Five History

There's never a dull moment around here.

Today was a big day, putting an end to a very unusual (but very expensive) Raising Five phenom: Three of us in braces - all at the same time.

Allie (13) led the pack by getting hers two years ago. I got mine a month ago, and Libby (9) got hers on two weeks ago. (We have it all planned out so we are only paying for one or two at a time, but we plan to spread those monthly payments out pretty much forever. Neal (12) is next. He gets his on when I get mine off (hopefully in 18 months). By the time Annie (6) and Ruthie (3) get braces, we will have personally financed our orthodontist's second house in Paris.)

Here we are this morning: The Three (Braced) Amigas

The fun was short-lived. Later today, Allie got hers off.

This is almost as much fun as discovering her first tooth when she was four months old.

One down, five (including me) to go!

************

And on that note, I'm heading off for a blogging break! Will see you toward the end of NEXT week!

Congrats to Allie -- those teeth are PERFECT! (I remember the feeling of repeatedly running my tongue over my teeth when they were finally free of metal. Such a weird, but great feeling!)

Have a good bloggy break!

I can't wait to get mine off - hopefully another 2-3 months. Allie's teeth look great. Tell her to wear her retainer - otherwise she'll be like me and getting them done AGAIN in her thirties :-)

She looks beautiful!

We also just had three in braces. I know what you mean about the cost. Yikes!

Oh my goodness, you guys are a beautiful family!
I am so greatful that we have dental insurance - dentist bills are NOT covered by the Canadian health plan and with three kids, whew! that would get expensive!
Have a fun break.

Ditto the comment about wearing those retainers - I need to have braces on my lower teeth again because I didn't wear that goofy retainer!!

Allie's smile is gorgeous.

Enjoy your time off!

Allie's gorgeous! I loved getting my braces off. My lips felt like they were constantly sliding down the front of my teeth.

Hang in there with yours!

Can't wait to hear all about your Blog Break when you get back.

I have Invisaligns. It's been so much fun to see my teeth getting more and more straight. I'm not self-conscious about my smile anymore, and as a result, most photos of me include a big, cheesy SMILE!

What a beautiful family. Your orthodontist could have used the three of you for his brochure. :)

Your eldest daughter's teeth look amazing! =) And kudos to you for tackling this with your own teeth. I may have to join this little posse too.

Wow! Hard to imagine... but such lovely results. I, too, have 5 blessings, oldest is almost 13. No braces yet, but I'm sure it's coming. Just discovered your blog today and it's already been a blessing. Thanks for the encouraging words. God bless.

Everyone is so cute! It is expensive...thankfully, we have a professional waiver from our orthodontist...which is an extreme blessing. My oldest has hers off and we just have Abigail in them now. My husband wants me to get them...then we could possibly have 3 more needing them!

The picture is so cute!

You are scaring me. We are heading down this road now. I have THREE ortho referals right now. And a pediatric dental referal. AND an up-coming ortho referal that I begged them not to tell me about so I wouldn't lose it right there in the dental clinic.
My oldest will be in braces for at least 26 months. I can't even imagine how we will pay for that, let alone what the other kids need done.

As someone who never got braces, I need to know WHY all your family needs them!!!!

Did the dentist refer them or is this something you thought they needed?

Oh My! Allie what straight teeth you have :) We were referred to an orthodontist a few years ago for our son. My husband kept saying NO--His jaw will grow. Gosh--dad was right. Our son's teeth have straightened out.

Our daughter was also referred at the time. We even went to see the new dentist. She would LOVE to have braces but she is a healthy, pretty strong 14 year old who has straight teeth, NO CAVITIES, and to her dismay no glasses. Good luck on this "family" endeavor. Enjoy your break :)

Happy Summer :)

Hi Katherine!
I've tagged you for a meme. No pressure. Only if you want to.

We financed our orthodontist's new and spacious home with son, daughter, and me all in braces. I still had mine when Jeana got married--the wedding pictures are marred by my metal mouth!
I hated the four years of wearing them, but it was worth it to be able to chew and close my mouth without pain.
