Memories of 2007

Since I'm on a "let's keep this for posterity" roll (yes, the blog book is still a work in progress), for Christmas this year I am making a memory book for my parents and for Dennis's parents (okay, and one for us, too!). I'm using Snapfish, which is very easy to use, and they are running a special right now for 20% off all their photo books (use friends07 coupon code at checkout).

So in my spare time this weekend, I started rifling through each of five million self-portraits of Allie (14) family photos, picking the ones that best represent the memories of 2007.

To keep costs this side of the stratosphere, I'm trying to keep the books to less than 50 photos (divided by 7 people, that's only seven photos per person, in our case), so it's kind of interesting which ones make the cut.

Of course, I have to include the staged, blah photos like this one:
But even though this one is not centered well and is not even in that great of focus, I LOVE this pic of Ruthie (3) with her cousin. It makes me happy.

And this one, which shows how Libby (9) was ever-so-concerned with Ruthie spilling and/or breaking the Easter eggs and cups...

Then there are some pics that show everyday life, like Neal (12) playing his guitar.Or this one showing daily insanity over simple things, like brushing teeth.I suppose I'll have to throw in a few of Allie's self-portraits, like this one, when she had braces and I didn't! And then there are some, like this one. Just so I can remember how small they once were.

What would you include if you could only keep a few memories of your year?

Wow that would be very hard. I would have to look at the picture and go by what kind of response it evoked from me. Mostly ones that probably showed off their personalities the most.

What a great idea ( and what a lot of work) this is. It is truly a gift from the heart.

Hi Katherine. We do a "photo page" along with our Christmas letter each year and it is so hard to "recap" the year - with so many wonderful memories and photos! :)
Love your family shot!

You're family is so fun and funny! Great choices, but I know it must be so hard to narrow them down!

It makes me just want to sit down and bawl when I look at pictures from the beginning of the year and how different D looks (and is) now. How can they change so fast in so few months?!

That is so sweet. I currently have 700!! pics on my camera! I've been thinking about giving each kids a snapfish book for Christmas - kind of a "Higlights of me 2007" - Now that I know they're on sale, I'd better get crackin'! I don't know how I'm going to narrow it down... Yours look great - good choices!

Katherine!

what cute pictures of your family. Don't you just love snapfish? I made a book last week for my husband grandma who we never get to see because she is so far away. She has a little apt so this was perfect for her and then I don't have to send her ten million snapshots to have to deal with lol. It is hard to pic and choose I want to include them all too. :)

Your family is just beautiful. If you check out my blog the pic of my three together at the top is what I chose for the cover of the book. :)

I always love the more "real" photos of my kids than the staged ones. I love catching them in the middle of a laugh or with a serious look on their face. It helps me remember their little facial expressions as they get older.

I am sending you a pic.

Love,
faithful chick

I made a snapfish book for my mom last year and it is really nice. They had taken our two oldest kids and a cousin to Washington DC, so it was a fun book to create. BUT I just went to a bazaar this past weekend where I saw Creative Memories new online books. They are gorgeous!!! Beautiful backgrounds and fonts to choose from, with lots of room to journal, which was a frustration with snapfish. If I do another photo book, I think that's the way I'll go.

I love the bathroom photo! And your youngest looks so much like you in that first photo. Love the dimples!

I would keep the blurry photo that my husband took of our toddler running across the lawn with the expression that we both agree captures his essence exactly. My husband isn't the greatest photographer and the background is clear, while Nicknack is slightly blurry. And it isn't necessarily the "cutest" photo taken this year. Or even that day. But it captures reality and that's what I want to remember!

Which is why I like your every day photos as much as the posed, doesn't-everyone-look-nice variety.

great pictures! You just reminded me that I need to go through and pick pictures and video for our annual DVD. How does time fly by so fast???

I've thought about doing those photo books for our long-distance relatives. Be sure and let us know if you're pleased with the way they turn out!

Love the pictures you chose, by the way! Even the "blah" family shot. :>)

Reading this post motivated me to get my pictures and footage sorted. I am at 121 pictures!! I am amazed that you got down to 50. Guess I will go through mine one more time! It is so hard to cut any out!

Hi, Katherine these are great photos. I use HOORRAY for uploading photos. It is really easy to create photo albums and calendars as well as other keepsakes.
