I had called Cheryl Friday to see if she could give me some ideas for where to hang my pictures. She has the Gift of Knickknack Presentation, a gift I am sorely lacking. When she came by, I was off trying to buy sofa pillows for cheap at Sams Club (where else?).
She was met at the door by my haggardly husband Dennis. He was knee deep in paint, touching up woodwork while trying to work through a punch list of items to be finished before we could have our open house Sunday. Allie (14) was pulling out the blender to
Meanwhile, the house was still filled with boxes (and boxes) of miscellany pulled from our as-yet unfinished bathroom sinks and bathroom tile. No pictures had been hung, boxes of plates and glassware from two other friends lay open in the living room, and styrofoam peanuts littered the floor.
Cheryl said Dennis handled the chaos with remarkable patience, even when Ruthie (4) spilled Fruity Pebbles all over the kitchen floor (DO NOT ASK why the Fruity Pebbles were out on a Saturday afternoon).
Cheryl smiled politely but told me later her first panicked thought was, Oh my gracious! These crazy people will never make it!
So she went home and devised a plan. She kidnapped our children, fed them something more nutritious than Fruity Pebbles, and kept them overnight. Then, her husband took over the kids (after he brought us Starbucks), and Cheryl came over with a truckload of plants, prints, vases, urns and candles. She went room by room with me until way past midnight, arranging, rearranging, hanging pictures and turning my austere into ambience. (Did I mention Cheryl also has the Gift of Pulling It All Together?). She came back the next day and helped do more of the same, plus she helped us clean.
By 3:00 we were ready, and we hear we had about seven families at our open house. We are on the market! We couldn't have done it without her.
