Remembering these days

Being a "Words" girl, I've kept a journal forever. Even before I started blogging, I would compose entries in my mind, wishing for a moment to sit down and capture the thought on paper. When the kids were all little, I felt lucky if I got to sit down a few times a year and "recap" the cute things they were doing, and write an update on decisions Dennis and I were facing at that time in our lives.

I really can't believe I've been blogging for over two years. I started seven days a week, until I realized people really didn't need to know that I'd not vacuumed on Saturday (and did my kids really need to see me at the computer again?), so then I dropped weekends. For a long time it was five days, but now I'm lucky to sit down two or three times a week!

So back to composing. I'm thinking about a few posts (how about one called, "Be careful what you pray for!") but life is just nuts right now. Dennis has been out of town a couple of times, the kids busy are doing fun stuff (and needing transportation and cheerleading), and (here's where I have contributed to my own insanity): I am painting my kitchen (goodbye, cows!).

The other day, when I was looking at the apparent chaos around me, I caught myself thinking, "I am hating my life right now," until I kicked myself in the shorts a few times and realized this is the stuff that memories are made of. I AM thankful little people who need milk in sippie cups, for big kids who need me to hang out with them after everyone else has gone to bed, and most of all for a husband who is very easygoing! My definition of the 'beautiful life' is changing, and that's a good thing.

I wish I had one of those voice recorders that would automatically transcribe the things hidden in my heart. Until then, I'll keep composing in my head. Maybe one of these days I'll get to write them all down.

Remember, live first, blog later.

So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

That thought is where I got the title of my blog (Flexible dreams).

Who knew this was what I wanted?!?! (Oh right, God did.)

Amen! I was just feeling these same sorts of thoughts. I don't want to look back and realize I missed it because I was too eager anticipating the 'next' phase. Thank you!
Good luck painting! :)

I've just started a blog, so your advice is very timely. A good friend said to me once, "If you've always got one foot in the past and another in the future, you are forever ignoring today". I love your renovations by the way - best of luck with the painting!

Thank you for reminding me of how I am going to miss these days. I threw a little temper tantrum last Sunday because I was feeling like I was being pecked to death by chickens lol!!

Everyone always needs something at any given moment. A ride here, pick me up there, the little ones need me to play with them or help to take care of some thing. Then my husband joins in " Honey can you help me find this or that?"

These are what memories are made of, thank you. Have a great MEMORABLE day!!

Excellent reminder! These days slip by all too quickly and I want to be actively participating in all that is going on. There are times where I wish my kids needed me to pour milk in their sippy cup, or tie their shoe...I'm not so fond of how quickly time flies. I'm working at enjoying these busy, chaotic times right now, knowing that someday soon I'll wish my kids still needed me to run them to practice and stay up late helping with homework.

Easy going husbands are the BEST! I am so glad I found one too. :)

That's one of my favorite verses, and just last week I reposted one of my favorite posts where I mentioned it.
