Black & white photos

This week the kids had school pictures taken. I felt obligated to order a few for their memory books (which someday I will put together for them, say, when they're 35. They have to have at least some pictures to remind them that they'd just had P.E. so that's why their hair was matted to their heads!). But I decided (for the first time ever!) not to buy the Big, "Say Cheese" Package.

Ever since Allie-15 said my collection of framed school pictures was "Grandma-ish," she took it as her mission to take the rest of the kids' photos for a new, improved "kid wall." So I felt empowered to Just Say NO to a bunch of pictures we never really liked, anyway. Yea!

It took her a while, but here's what she came up with:

Yes, this is a self-portrait.

This is the only one I took:

Now I need to do a little PhotoShopping to fade backgrounds (anybody know how to do that?) and they'll be ready to print. For the cost I saved NOT buying all the school pictures, I can buy new frames! I'm so excited!

MUCH better than school photos!!!

I never buy the big package. I always buy the small one-- 1 5x7 (For the memory book!) with 4-6 wallets.

LOVE your black and whites! What kind of camera do you have?

Those are awesome!!! And I have to admit that reading your prior post has inspired me to do the same thing...more candids, less portraits. I did buy a few though...

Nice work!!!

Great shots! You can load them into Picasa (a gree google download) and do all kinds of things with them, including background fading. I love using Picasa on all my photos and it's FREE! Hope this helps. It's easy to work on photos like these, because they are already amazing!

Thank you! I was feeling soooo guilty this week about not ordering school photos of the children. The backgrounds were very cheesy and the photos were not the best of my children. I have the order forms right here on my desk and I am going to Just Say No! Like you with the nice chunk of change I save I'll buy cute frames for better photos.

GORGEOUS photos!
I know how to fade backgrounds on photoshop, but it's a bit complicated to explain. If you want, I can send you a step by step email, but it would probably be easier to find someone who could actually show you HOW to.
