This afternoon Ruthie-4 and I were in the car alone, going to pick up the big kids from school. We were driving down a street nearby that has an old Victorian house that some people have been renovating for months. It has been fun to watch the transformation as they've put in new windows, added a garage, a wrap-around porch, and painted it in a period color.
As we drove along, Ruthie said, "Mom, why do we always drive this way?"
Well, it's a little town, I thought. There aren't that many ways to get to school!
Just then we passed by the house. Hmmm. The plumber's here today, and is that a new color on the trim around the windows?
Ruthie saw me looking. "Is it because you like to see the house?"
I chuckled. She's catching on, that girl! Her mom is not all that complicated. "Yes, babe. You know how much I love to look at beautiful things, don't you?"
She looked at me in the rear-view mirror and sighed in a knowing tone, "Yeah, like your flowers and your Ruthie."
Yes, exactly like that. I love to look at beautiful things, like my flowers and my Ruthie.

Aw, how sweet. Must have made you smile the rest of the day.
She is so cute...very sweet that Ruthie gal.
Awwwww. Pretty hard to wrap her in a big bear hug when you were driving the car after that sweet comment.
You must have felt so encouraged. What a precious treasure your relationship with each other is.
That brought tears to my eyes!
Yay, Ruthie :-)
Oh, this was just gorgeous. Whatta girl.
How cute! I just love that kind of conversation with my little one. :)
Precious!
Oh, my goodness. My heart. "Your Ruthie."
