Weekly schedule, 2009 version

Dennis and I sat down and went over our family calendar the other day. We have two events coming up that are going to take a concerted effort to pull off: (1) a fund-raising garage sale for Allie's-15 Africa trip, and (2) Libby's-11 Passport to Purity weekend (do not ASK me how my baby suddenly got so big!!).

Once I added my new job (working 8-16 hours a week), two kids in soccer, one in softball, one in baseball, a church musical, field trips, doctor and orthodontist appointments, and two business trips for Dennis, there was not much white space left on the calendar between now and the end of the school year. Whew!

We finally decided on some dates, but while I was at it, I figured now would be a good time to go over my weekly schedule. It's something I've let go lately, in favor of (a) the "company's-coming-quick-clean-the-toilet" method and/or (b) flying by the seat of my pants. That is, when I can find a pair of clean pants to wear!

I rarely follow my routine to the "T," but going through my commitments and seeing how I can even out the workload throughout the week just helps me - mentally, if nothing else. I usually have to look at my week two or three times a year, depending on who is in what sport or activity. Then it sort of "shakes down" as the season progresses. Just in time to do it all over again....
(And WOW didn't that turn out tiny! Can you even read that?)

On the weeks I work more, the laundry will have to go to the "wash in the morning and dry at night" method, and grocery shopping will shuffle to the weekends, I suppose. I put lunch in there in a bright color because that reminds me I need to stop what I am doing and sit down with Ruthie-5, and we talk and color and read and do stuff together. Most of the rest of the day she just keeps me company with what I am doing. I usually have some computer time in the morning for planning, writing projects, email, etc. Blogging falls under that, but it seems to be falling by the wayside lately...Hmm.

I see that my list of "routine" menu items printed on this page. I desperately need some "oomph" in that department, so any and all suggestions are welcome. If you'd like to come and cook for me, that would be even better. I'll bake the cookies.

Okay, and now I'm off to do...let's see, it's Thursday. What am I supposed to be doing today? Oh, that's right, CONTINUE LAUNDRY. What's new??

Here's my 2006 schedule, which talks about how I think things through, fyi (kids were 2, 5, 8, 11 and 13). And my 2007 schedule, if you are just dying for reading material. I don't have one for 2008, I suppose because I was doing good just to survive =).

Yeah, laundry is never ending around here either. I'd love to come cook if you'd bake. Anyday. Now if we could just work out that schedule! ;v)

BTW, if you click on the schedule it makes it bigger.

Timely post...I'm in the middle of working on my schedule too.

Have you ever done any 'dump recipes'? I'm loving them! It is easy to make up several ahead of time...you just 'dump' everything into a ziploc bag and put in the freezer. Take it out of the freeze the day before you plan on having it. That gives it time to thaw and marinate, then it is an easy fix for dinner.

That's a busy schedule! Even with just one little one at home, I find that having plan for the day helps a ton!

Pulled BBQ Pork Sandwiches:
Boneless Sirloin Pork Roast(I buy a 3-pack at Costco for $1.99/lb)
Put roast in crockpot. Pour just enough BBQ sauce on to smear on all sides of roast. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Do not drain juice. Shred roast in crockpot. Add more sauce to taste. Serve on burger buns with cheese. Add some fruit and chips. Easy dinner. Enjoy!! Melanie B. from Oregon

I can come up with a schedule, but it seems that I can't find a place to put family or me time. I work 8-5 every day and evenings are filled with dinner, necessary cleaning and a few events. I only have one child and Scouting is his only activity besides school. It just seems that we are always 'doing chores'.

Ok, so I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who must create spreadsheet schedules like this to keep myself sane. I update ours every few months as the kids sports and activities change! And I, too, have a menu sheet. It's a handwritten paper of all the things I know how to cook (sadly it's not very long :). I put it on the fridge so I can remember to change things up every now and then as I feel I often get into a rut of serving/cooking the same old stuff! Anyway....I enjoy your site.
