Countdown to Africa

Next week my baby Allie-15 leaves for Africa. We have mostly everything done: we got her passport, and she took the last of her make me want to vomit typhoid pills during camp (she was a trooper!). This weekend we will be going to the Goodwill to buy a "wardrobe" of long skirts she can wear there and leave. A team meeting this week got everyone pumped to go and serve "the least of these."

The team will be working in vegetable gardens, visiting a hospice home for children, and working at a youth camp. After having such an incredible week at our camp, Allie is very psyched about that one!

The biggest team project is a de-worming campaign. I'm not talking about the kind of worms we put on a hook to go fishing with (or the kind that wreak havoc on a country lawn!). No, these are intestinal worms, the kind that multiply when there is a lack of sanitation and poor hygiene, that make babies die of dehydration and make kids too sick to go to school.

The project is aimed at almost 6,000 vulnerable children in Masoyi, South Africa. Allie and I were talking about it the other day and realized that is more than double the population of Small Town! We can hardly fathom the need. And what a privilege it is to be able to help.

If you would like to be involved in this project, you can sponsor one child's treatment for $1! Or treat ten kids for $10!

Here is a bit more information on the project: World In View De-Worming Project

This will be my last post for a week or so while we get things ready for the trip. We really appreciate your prayers for safety and provision, and for God to do big things through a few compassionate hands.

She has never been away this long (or this far!!), so I could use a little prayer, too! But I know God has good things in store.

Oh I will be praying for both of you. It will be such an amazing experience for her to serve. I'm sure when she gets back she will be able to share with others her amazing journey!!
