Checking in

Summer is finally here!

The kids finished school Thursday; I had to work yesterday, finishing my first school year working full-time in 16 years. I am exhausted, but proud of what we've been able to accomplish, although my usual goal was to get out the door without anyone crying, least of all ME! Like I always say, Aim low, then you'll never be disappointed.

I also finished my two classes (2 A's, TYVM), a very expensive and stressful way to learn that science has finally concluded that we would all live long, healthy lives if we would just eat right and exercise. My mom could have told you that, back in the 70s. Two more classes this summer, two in the fall, and I'm done. Breathe...

On Monday all five kids and I are going to church camp again. It's for the youth, but because I need camp as much as the kids, and because am crazy enough to volunteer as a sponsor for twelve high school girls, they said I can take our Little Girls (Yes, yes, I know they are not so little anymore, but they will always be known as such around here). Because they get to sleep in a bunkbed, eat in the mess hall, and worship with the big kids, they think it's their camp, too. Why tell them the truth?

Dennis and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on June 1. I suppose I should do a recap like I did for our 20th. Someday. Chapter Five was going to be entitled The Dark Years, Revisited, but maybe I'll just make that Part A. Chapter 5B includes the fact that we made it through, so think I should call it something like Ebenezer, which sounds really bad but means "Thus far has the LORD helped us," which He has.

It also helps that we are more crazy about each other than we were way back when we were kids and just thought that was love. No, you know it's the real thing when the life you wanted to make together doesn't come out exactly as you planned, and the disappointments and heartaches melt together with the accomplishments and the joys, into a look - or a touch - that says, I know all that, and I'm sticking with you anyway.

Yup, he's a keeper. Here we are then. And here we are the other night at THE Mexican restaurant in town. Lots of college classes, five kids, nine moves, and a million shared memories later.
Man, I love that guy.

My mind is full of all the rambling thoughts - about teens, tweens, little people, marriage, working, gardening and life - that I haven't had time or wherewithal to turn into coherent blog posts the last few months. I'm hoping this summer some of those will start to congeal in my brain so I can get over my writer's block.

Maybe after camp...

Katherine! So nice to see you again. :) Glad to hear that you made it through the school year alive!

We have one more week left here. Then we dive into summer! (Although our weather has been anything BUT summer-like so far.)

Have a great summer vacation Katherine. You deserve it!

Love,
Melissa

Well, hello there! :v)

You made it through the 1st year back. Good for you! Hope you have a wonderful, restful summer in spite of those two classes you have to do.

Happy Anniversary to you both, too!

Katherine, so nice to read what you've been up to. Sure have missed your blogging. I look forward to when those thoughts congeal in your head and you post them. In the meantime, I think I'll go back and read some of your archives. I know there's a lot there that applies more now than even when I first read it.

The kids are ages 12,11,9,6 & 2. So life is busier than I could've ever imagined. They finish school tomorrow and then 10 weeks off.

I've been dabbling a little w/ my blog again. Hop on over if you get the time. Have a great time at camp. And a great summer.

I love it when you post because I feel like I can relate to so much of your crazy world. And you inspire me too. And, like you, although I love to blog, it's hard to find the time. Sigh. Just know you have "fans" out there to share some of this load. Happy Summer!
